Rectilinear Form Process
This project utilized a majority of the machines in the wood shop. The guidelines were to create a dynamic five board stool using only 90 degree angles that will function as a seat, a foot rest, and a step stool in different orientations.
The assignment pushed me to consider a number of factors including ergonomic fit, composition, assembly methods, craft, and semantics. Completing the stool gave me a lot of insight on furniture design— like just how much goes into preparing one piece of wood to be square.
I used a variety of tools throughout the entire project depending on the situation. Therefore, I switched seamlessly between sketching, desktop prototyping, CAD modeling, and wood shop production.
